The London Borough of Waltham Forest has used GLA funding to transform this Grade 2 Listed, 1950s town centre building. Gort Scott’s mixed-use scheme adapts and refurbishes the ground floor to provide a bakery, café and events space, retail spaces and co-working areas with meeting rooms and studio units for up to 50 independent creative businesses. Rehearsal spaces and recording studios are provided at basement level. Externally the façade has been respectfully upgraded to enhance the character of the existing building.

The refurbishment aims to appeal to Walthamstow’s burgeoning creative community as part of a long-term plan by the Council to enhance business in and around the area. The social enterprise Meanwhile Space is running the facility.
